Das Weingut Tenute Marchesi Fumanelli liegt auf einem Hügel, umgeben von Zypressen, im Herzen des klassischen Valpolicella-Weinanbaugebiets nahe dem Gardasee. Seit etwa 1470 kultiviert die Familie Marchesi Fumanelli auf diesem Standort Wein und führt eine lange Tradition der Weinproduktion fort. Nach der sorgfältigen Restaurierung der historischen Villa im Jahr 1998 werden die bestehenden Keller wieder für die Reifung und Lagerung von Valpolicella-Weinen in Eichenfässern genutzt.
Der Entwurf sieht einen kleinen Pavillon am Rand des Weinguts vor, der über die Landstraße zwischen Verona und dem Gardasee erschlossen wird. Das Gebäude schafft einen Ort für Weinverkostungen und stellt eine direkte Verbindung zwischen Landschaft, Produktionsprozess und Weinerlebnis her.
Die kompakte, facettierte Struktur aus Ortbeton erinnert an einen Findling. Als introvertierter Monolith konzipiert, erzeugt der Pavillon die Atmosphäre eines traditionellen Weinkellers.
Gezielt gesetzte Öffnungen führen ein kontrolliertes Maß an natürlichem Licht in den Innenraum, während ein einziges Fenster den Blick auf die umliegenden Weinberge rahmt. Die geschlossene Raumwirkung schafft eine intime Atmosphäre und lenkt die Aufmerksamkeit auf das Erlebnis der Verkostung.
Die massiven Betonwände gewährleisten thermische Stabilität, reduzieren äußere Einflüsse und machen eine künstliche Kühlung überflüssig. Das entstehende natürliche Raumklima bietet optimale Bedingungen für die Lagerung und Verkostung der Weine.

Valpolicella Wine Tasting Pavilion

The Tenute Marchesi Fumanelli wine estate is located on a hillside surrounded by cypress trees in the heart of the Valpolicella wine-growing region near Lake Garda. Since around 1470, the Marchesi Fumanelli family has cultivated vineyards on this site, continuing a long tradition of wine production. Following the careful restoration of the historic villa in 1998, its cellars have once again been used for the maturation and storage of Valpolicella wines in oak barrels.
The client commissioned a small pavilion at the edge of the estate, accessible from the country road connecting Verona and Lake Garda. The building provides a setting for wine tastings and creates a direct relationship between the landscape, the production process and the experience of the wine.
The design proposes a compact, faceted structure in cast concrete, reminiscent of an erratic boulder. Conceived as an introverted monolith, the pavilion evokes the atmosphere of a traditional wine cellar.
Carefully positioned openings introduce a controlled amount of natural light into the interior, while a single window frames a view towards the surrounding vineyards. The enclosed character of the space creates an intimate atmosphere, focusing attention on the tasting experience.
The massive cast-concrete walls provide thermal stability, reducing external influences and eliminating the need for artificial cooling. The resulting natural climate offers optimal conditions for storing and tasting the wines.
